Primary Connections is an innovative, inquiry-based approach for the teaching and learning of science and the literacies of science in the primary years of schooling. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education is a key focus, and building capacity for STEM begins with primary education. The teaching of science is central to STEM education.

Informed by this, Primary Connections is offering this introductory workshop in which educators will unpack the teaching and learning of science as inquiry and explore how this approach strongly supports STEM instruction. Participants will explore and consolidate the investigative and inquiry approach in the context of the Chemical Sciences by drawing on examples across Foundation to Year 6.

Designed to build efficacy with teaching science inquiry with a STEM perspective, this workshop visits the key principles underpinning the Primary Connections teaching and learning approach. Participants engage in first-hand experiences that exemplify best practice in supporting students to develop science understanding and skills that build capability in STEM, and walk away with a re-imagined perspective and a toolkit of practical strategies to implement directly into classroom practice.

Who should attend? This introductory workshop is ideally suited to:

  • Science Specialist teachers interested in linking their program with the generalist classroom
  • Educators new to Primary Connections
  • Classroom teachers teaching science
  • Experienced Primary Connections praticioners who have not attended a workshop.
